Security

Overview

The increase in the use of computers by organisations, the ubiquity of networked services, and the growth in the sheer volume of data of all descriptions through networks in recent years has meant that security, once considered a "nice-to-have", has become a much more important consideration for Information Technology departments.

One consequence of this growth in accessibility of data is that the average person within any organisation, and indeed at home, must be much more security-conscious than ever previously.

There are many security threats, and it is the responsibility of IT Services, and the Information Services Directorate in general, to provide security assistance, monitoring, advice and auditing for the University.

Security is implemented at many levels; at the organisational level by a central IT department, at a departmental level by Departmental Computing Staff, and at an individual level by all members of the University.
